2010 Update
24/04/2010

Well where have we been!

Alexz has had a very busy winter , mainly training and getting ready for the big outdoor season of World Championship events.
The biggest thing recently has been his participation in the indoor series as a permanent rider. OK he hasn't set the world alight but this was a big step up for him and he produced some good performances and has definately learned alot.

2010 WTC Round 1 Spain
24/04/2010

With several rule changes Alexz was at a disadvantage riding at the back of the field but this was nothing compared to the effort to actually get to the event.
With the well known Volcano disrupting air travel team Wigg made the 22 hour 1350 mile trip overnight and day just to get to the event in time.

Despite the sections being very hard and long Alexz tried hard all day and ended up one from last just in front of wtc regular Michael Brown. Wiggy was glad the event was over but with Harold Crawford his regular minder making the trip by car this week everyone on the team is hoping for a better result.

more news as we get it.

Junior WTC Italy
21/06/2009

The Italian Round of the Junior WTC was held over the same course as the previous days UEM championship, in Barzio Northern Italy. Weather was fine and set for the day.
Alexz Wigg (JLI TTT beta Evo) was motivated by a below par performance theday before, and started the trial perfectly, clean till section 5. Despite getting on top of the difficult step he slipped to the side and was caught by his minder, Harold "H" Crawford. Despite this, a first lap which included only five more dabs but left him trailing in third place due in no small part to some “partisan” observing. Gomez was only two in front, and on lap two Alexz arrived at the tricky section 5 almost needing a clean, which he managed this time with no trouble. This very much set the tone for the lap. Despite the difficult sections, and they all were Wiggy stayed clean till 10 when despite keeping his feet on the pegs the observer held up a one card. Some “discussion” occurred, but the observer stuck to his decision and one went on the card.

This was to be the only mark lost on the lap, and cleaning 12 was a real achievement with this slippery section at its worst. At the end despite his fantastic single mark lap, he was pipped for the win by home rider Gratterola, just two marks in front, and third place was decided on most cleans, teammate Jack Challoner losing out to Gomez both on 24.

This result leaves Alexz requiring 7 more points to wrap up the Junior world Trials Championship next week in Andorra. Can’t wait!

JuniorWTC Round 3 Portugal
26/04/2009

After the european championship Sunday arrived with a much better day weatherwise and Alexz Wigg (JLI Top Trial Team Beta) was in good shape having made a few changes to the bike overnight. Practice proved the bike to be spot on and with a positive attitude Wiggy was out last man away.

Sections one and two proved no problem but three was much harder today due to the damp ground conditions and a good clean here was a fair effort. Sadly a 5 in section four followed by two dabs in 5 and 6 meant he had fallen behind his rivals. A fighting 3 on the very difficult 12 meant a lap score of 10 left him trailing in third with gomez on 6 and Gratterola on 8. Despite this and because the sections were riding harder than the Saturday Alexz was still determined to give it his best.

A clean on four really got him fired up and even a dab on his bogey section 5 did nothing to stop the roll but two in 11 marked as a three really meant he had to do something special. This would have to be the difficult section twelve, already fived by his rivals Alexz said" I have to go for a clean its my only chance" which is what he did to great applause. A dab in 13 was a shame and at the finish proved very costly, as despite posting the best lap of the day only 5 marks lost it was not enough to claw back a below par first lap.

" I am really disappointed, but after yesterday its perhaps not such a bad result. I feel like I have found some form but have been slack in places" said Alexz. Wiggy is determined to go away now and put in even more effort to ensure a good result in the next WTC event in CARLISLE in may!!!! Be there and be sure to give the British Lads a big cheer.

This leaves Alexz still leading the Junior world championship but Gomez has closed the gap to only three points. But next week there is the small matter of the SSDT.

European Championship (round 1) 2009
25/04/2009

Alexz Wigg (JLI Top Trial team Beta) began his European Championship today in the Northern Portuguese town of Chaves 5 kms from the Spanish border. Despite the arrival of a new TTT Beta wiggy didn't perform to his best today, in fact he was well off the pace.

Starting off well enough with two cleans then on 3 a clean ride up the difficult start was spoilt by rushing the relatively straight forward end and two marks quickly followed. Section 4 then meant another slack two and five in five set the tone for the day. Another 11 added in 11,12 and 13 meant a lowly lap score of 22. Despite halving his score to 11 for the second lap a total of 33 gave him tenth position a far from perfect start to the European Championship.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring a better result and a good finish to put with his double win from the recent first round in Ireland.

Superchips on board!
17/04/2009

The tuning company Superchips have been added to Alexz's sponsors today and have very kindly chipped the motorhome just in time for the long trip to Portugal next week. " Not only has the performance, torque and overall driveability better, the Mercedes engine is now more economical as well!"

Many thanks to all at Superchips in Buckingham, all enquireies to 01280-816781.

First two rounds of Junior WTC
10/04/2009

After recent disappointing results it was something of a return to form for Alexz  (Top Trial 290 JLI Beta) in the first two days of the Junior World trials Championship held at the superb Donard Park Near to the resort of Newcastle in Northern Ireland..

After section inspection on Friday the verdict that it would be a tough event was confirmed from the off on Saturday with all riders in the class loosing marks by the third section. Alexz was coping well with the difficult sections and despite a 5 on number six (the same as the entire entry) little by little he was edging in front with the saving of marks rather than cleaning the zones. Be in no doubt he was riding well if a little untdy and not settled in places. A good run in with only one drama a flat tyre just before section 13 with only minute’s left to finish lap one. The team quickly swapped with Harolds bike and he got in with a minute to spare. Returning the best lap score of 23 by some seven marks gave Wiggy the confidence boost he has needed.

Lap two was more of the same and it was easy to see signs of a good performance by cleaning up to section 5 including the only one to get up the tricky fourth unpenalised. I saw this and it covinced me Wiggy was back on form and I just hoped it would continue. The remaining sections rode much the same as before and a lap score of 22 (again the best!) meant the win was secured by a margin of 13 marks over second placed Gomez and closely followed by team-mate Jack Challoner. A brilliant result for jack and shows he will be a threat this year aswell. Good job.

Alexz was obviously delighted “ I am really happy with the result today, and to win with a small gap to the other riders is good. Leading up to the event I was nervous but it seems to have helped my riding”.

Sunday saw the second day of the event with better weather and 50% of the sections eased. This worried the team but they were sensible minor changes that made just a few more rideable than before.

Starting last man away Wiggy was soon on his own taking time to ride the sections at the back of the field, pretty much doing his own thing closely watched by minder Harold Crawford. Cleaning the fourth again did nothing to help a “slack” 3 and 5 in the next two, but improvements in the remainder meant the best lap score again of a much better 16. This set up a tight finish as second placed Smage was only two behind on 18 and then a few others all together.

Alexz pulled out all the stops and got to the Quarry sections on one mark which gave a margin of error as a five and two 3’s meant a quick 11 added to his score! This then seemed to spur him on and with no more marks lost a 12 for the lap and total of 28 left a small but significant margin to the next two riders Gomez and Gratteola on 35.

Alexz said “ I am feeling much better having got that over, and although it has gone well I still made a few mistakes so there is some work to do. It’s a great start but a long way to the end of the championship!”

Thanks to Harold  and who worked so hard all weekend, he will team up with Alexz at the next BTC the St. David’s in two weeks time before setting off for the Portuguese rounds of the European and World Championships. Wiggy will have a new bike specially prepared by the top team boys so look out for this, more news as we get it!

Spring Update
20/03/2009

Well things have been a little disappointing for Alexz as far as the BTC is concerned. The first two rounds have not gone that well results wise, but we think Wiggy is riding well.

Two fifth places down on scores and positions don't reflect what he feels he is capable of and if the truth be known he is a little down which is not good going forward to the start of a new World Championship season.

The good news is he is off to stay with Harold for a few days before the first event held in Northern Ireland which will sharpen up his skills!

Vic Brittain
04/01/2009

Today at the very cold National Vic Brittain trial, the first National of the year Wiggy did the biz!
Looking like he had been riding the beta for years he cleaned up and finished first on 13 marks lost, half that of Sam Haslam who was second.

A great start to the season, lets hope there are many more to come!

2009 Beta than ever!
17/12/2008
It is with great expectations that we are pleased to announce that Alexz Wigg will be riding for the Beta team in 2009. Having got a flavour for the Italian way of life this year and after some serious thinking and decisions Wiggy put pen to paper and is contracted for the WTC UEM European Championship and the British Championship plus selected Nationals and of course the SSDT and the Scott. More details as soon as we get them.

WTC Round up
13/12/2008
Wiggy finished again second in this championship and had a really good seson this year all things considered. More details to follow.

UEM European Championship
12/12/2008
Despite a mid season hiccup wher Alexz missed one round in Italy he managed a good second in the championship.

BTC Round up
11/12/2008
Wiggy finished fourth in the final count up.

Nws update
13/09/2008

Well it’s been a good few weeks since the last update so apologies for that but here goes!

Wiggy has been into hospital and had an operation on his knee, which took the edge of his results mid season. However the last few results have been really good, 3-second positions to Michael Brown in the European Championships have left Alexz in fourth place with one round to go in Portugal. BUT he is only one point of second place so all to ride for there, so hopefully he can do the job next weekend on Saturday.

In the World Trial Championship after the mid season break the long trip to Sweden was worthwhile with a very close second to current series leader Gubian of France. Two soft mistakes cost him the win but being there I can definitely say that wiggy is back to top form and riding really well. Although the championship is not decided yet it’s looking likely that Alexz will finish in second place, probably confirmed this weekend on Sunday in Portugal.

At Hook Woods last week despite a terrific first lap Alexz was on the rough end of a tie break for 3rd place and ended up fourth on most ones, a shame really as he was pushing for the win after lap one.

Come back soon for more info...............

Junior WTC Italy
29/06/2008

Alexz Wigg (Future Trial 300 Montesa) managed to complete the trial today in the Italian round of the Junior World Trial Championship.
With his knee injury preventing a serious attempt yeasterday he came out determined to do a job today which would keep his hopes in the championship alive.
Starting well he completed the first four sections for only a dab, better than all his rivals excluding Gubian. However a silly mistake in five actually set more of a tone for the day.
By 8 he had lost more marks but an over zealous observer insisted a five was recorded when Alexz had reached the ends cards feet up then a two given in ten incensed Alexz even more, harsh was an understatement.

Finishing the lap on 29 and in tenth place was almost a disaster, but he dug deep and was determined to improve on the second which he did, when most of his rivals lost more marks.
At the end of the lap with the improvement he ended the day in fourth position just off the podium but was very surprised to have gained so many places. He said" I have had a terrible day and not ridden that well at all, I'm lucky to finish where I did. I made some school boy errors going the wrong side of a marker and haven't ridden at all near to what I can".

Finishing in fourth has meant dropping to second in the champion ship for the first time, leader Gubian iscurrently 5 points ahead.Alexz flies back to the UK to see an orthapedic surgeon on Monday morning and hopefully returns to competition in czecho next weekend.

European Championship (round 2)
28/06/2008

Alexz Wigg (Future Trial 300cc Montesa) failed to finish the Italian round held today in Tolmezzo.

Despite starting well with a clean on the first section, following his recent knee injury Alexz was struggling to compete at his best. At the end of the first lap he was excluded for finishing outside the time limit.

Hopefully with a handful of painkillers he will be able to perform better in tomorrows event the Junior WTC held over the same sections.

Currently leading the championship by a few points gives him no room for error.

British Championship Rnd 3
25/05/2008
After finishing eleventh in the SSDT Alexz is hoping to post a good result in the next BTC round again in wales. This event is near Myrthr and follows the usual format of practice then 3 laps of 12 sections.
Immediately after the event Alexz and minder Harold Crawford fly to Milan and join the Future Team travelling on to the Japenese double round for the WTC.

Scottish Six Days
05/05/2008

Alexz Wigg (Sandiford Future Trial 300cc Montesa) had a disappointing week in Scotland by his standards but for a second attempt managed a sound result really, rounding out the week in 11th position.

On Monday things did not start well for wiggy and a slack five on his early day for a total of 11, meant he actually started Tuesday in 28th place! Wednesday again brought an improvement (17th) so things were moving in the right direction, however losing some sections on Thursday (now 13th) and then having a nasty crash necessitating a hospital visit, did nothing to get him into the top ten. He did only drop 3 marks each on these two days, his best rides of the week.
On the Friday “a good ride turned average from too many slack marks” according to Alexz, despite no fives and finishing only one mark behind team mate Dabill.

Saturday again Wiggy felt he was below form without making excuses (he was in some discomfort from the injuries) but a clean up the pipeline sections was a good achievement, and as his consistency began to show the event ended. “Perhaps with another 6 days he could get top 5” remarked someone nearby!

Vowing to return in 2009 and put in a better performance Wiggy now goes home to recover from the weeks efforts and prepare for the Mitchell BTC and the following days flight to Japan for the next WTC round in Japan, at the end of May.

WTC Sequatchie USA Day 1
26/04/2008

The scores we have in are that Alexz has finished in fifth place with 5 marks covering the second to fifth placings. It looks like the day has not made any real difference to the championship standings more news if we get it.
